Why SW Oregon Mining Facts

Our purpose is to present factual information about hardrock mining in Southwest Oregon and the 1872 Mining Law.

We cite or directly link to government reports, published articles, congressional testimony and other official sources so readers can assess the evidence for themselves. See our References page.

The mining of sand, gravel, and other common variety minerals does not come under the 1872 Mining Law and is not discussed here.

Why comments are not allowed: Mining advocates often use threats of violence and vitriol against those who speak against their practices or in defense of rivers, communities and a clean environment.

No one is exempt—including families, elected officials and state and federal government employees. Therefore, we don't allow comments and post authors chose not to be identified.
